This is a little page devoted to my favorite anime shipping, Lina and Xelloss from Slayers! Maybe not the most popular pairing, but hey, it's still up there. If you're already an L/X fan, then enjoy. If you're not, you might want to leave now, because you will end up a convert! (Maybe.)


WTF? Lina and Xelloss?

My main reasons for being a crazy shipper fangirl supporting this couple:

1. Xelloss is foxeh.
Okay, let's be honest about my real motivation. I've always identified with Lina. My nickname is Lina. Actually, my screenname is often i_am_lina_inverse. I also happen to have a thing for Xelloss. When Lina and Xelloss are together, it's good for me. That's how this all got started.

2. They really are compatible!
They are both very intelligent. (Believe me, relationships are easier when there are no big differences in smarts!) They are both extremely powerful. They both love to destroy shit. And they're both really fine. (That is a legit reason, I assure you.)

3. Xelloss likes Lina a lot.
Lina/Xelloss eyecatch from Next Bear with me. I know he's a Mazoku and he threatened to kill her and all that, but he was ORDERED to do that (which, I might add, he points out like three times). All signs point to Xelloss liking Lina, no matter what type of "like" you interpret it to be. And why wouldn't he? Mazoku must lust after power, and she's, like, L-sama's chosen one. Plus she's so cute, how can he resist? =O Okay, you're still not convinced. Well, here's the evidence that he likes her:
-He FLIRTS with her like crazy! Since it embarrasses her so much when he does, he gets a rise of negative emotions out of her, which is very tasty for a Mazoku.
-He lets her beat him up to her heart's content. If anybody else tried that, he'd teleport out of there. But it seems he really doesn't mind when Lina strangles and pounds him. A nice turn-on, I bet. :D
-He devotes most of his attention to her. Instead of addressing the group as a whole, he usually just addresses Lina. He's polite to everybody, but especially to Lina-san!
-He was obviously not very happy when he thought Lina had been sacrified to the Lord of Nightmares. At that point it was no longer his duty to protect her, so he had no "official" reason to care.
-Ever read the lyrics to his image song, "But But But"? No? Okay, go look them up. I'll wait. ....... Okay, done? Convinced now? Yeah, that's what I thought.

Reasons against, and why they're lame. >.>

1. Lina loves GOURRY!
Okay, well, maybe. You don't spend a few years of your life with somebody and not have some kind of affection for them. I guess this goes back to my own Lina-ness... I really like Gourry, but I wouldn't get romantically involved with him! I'd go crazy and fireball him before the wedding day.
True, this is a canon couple... but is that REALLY such a good reason? The author of the novels didn't intend for Slayers to be romantic at all, so if you're going to be a purist, you really shouldn't support Lina/Gourry any more than you do Lina/anybody else. And, come on, let's not take ourselves too seriously. It's a fiction story, not real people in love. (Says the girl making a webpage devoted to them, heheh...)

2. Xelloss loves FILIA!
He doesn't. Really. (She totally has a crush on him, though. ^_~)

3. Xelloss is a Mazoku. He can't love.
Okay, yeah, you got me. In real, original, creator-intended Slayers, Xelloss could never have a real romantic relationship. Hot S&M sex, anybody?!
But, hey, for fanfics and flights of imagination, there are ways around this. Xelloss gets reborn into a human body. Xelloss somehow "figures out" or learns how to love despite his nature. Xelloss was originally a human and still retains a tiny bit of humanity. (Yeah, I know it's LIKELY he was never human, but nobody really knows, right? I think...)

4. Lina doesn't even like Xelloss.
True to some extent. She finds him annoying and knows it means trouble whenever he shows up. I think she does like him a little bit, though... she does strangle and pound him, a tactic she usually reserves for her friends. No matter how much of a pain he becomes she never tries to seriously hurt him, although I'm certain she could.
But where exactly does that leave us? I definitely don't suggest that Lina has a secret crush on Xelloss. But maybe she could grow one, eh? (Actually, my favorite scenario is Lina marrying Gourry or whatever and Xelloss being in miserable unrequited love. Mmm. I love me some demon angst. :D)

Er, well, anyway... my conclusion is that while Lina and Xelloss don't have romance in the anime, they have the makings for one, and they would make an awesome couple!
